Those Questions

THE RULES
1. Post these rules.
3. Answer the questions provided by the one who tagged you.
4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag.
5. Tag people.

Carla tagged me, so I'm answering:

1. If you could go back to school and major in something different what would it be?

  • I think I would like to go back and do graphic design like I intended. Or maybe a degree in English.

2. What is your go to outfit when you want to look good, and you're in a hurry?
  • My skinny jeans and stripey shirt with a red belt. And thigh-high boots if I'm really feeling it.
  • Or, it might be my new dress:

3. If you could only watch one tv show over and over, what show would you pick?

  • Parks & Recreation
4. What's your favorite book, or the first that came to mind?

  • Anything by Georgette Heyer... I could never choose a favorite book.
5. If your life had a theme song what would it be?

  • Meet Virginia -- I don't know. That's just the first song that popped in to my head, but it seems to fit on a fairly regular basis.
6. Who is someone you miss having in your life (from moving away, passing away, just busy whatever)?

  • I miss having my mom close by me. I miss Becca like I'd miss my left hand. And I miss my old friend Colin.
7. Would you rather be tired for the rest of your life or hungry?

  • Tired, because I'm already used to it. (And do I honestly look like someone who likes to go hungry?)
8. Who is someone you admire and would like to emulate?

  • Ah.... I don't have a clue. Maybe my Uncle Allen. His unwavering faith, devotion to his family, cool insight, and general hilariousness are all definitely something to aspire to. I want to parent my children the way he does. I want to have the same understanding of the gospel and the hunger for knowledge that he does. I should be a harder worker like he is.
9. What is your favorite game?

  • It depends on who I'm playing with. I love playing Hand & Foot. Or Bananagrams. Or Pounce.
10. If you had to leave your home forever and could only take a few "valuables" what would you take?

  • My Kindle, a family picture, my camera.... and that's about it.
11. What grocery item do you regularly splurge on?

  • I can't remember the last time I went grocery shopping.

I don't know who to tag (Chuck, you're definitely one, Aubrey, Becca, Courtney, Kira, Larissa, Melissa, William...), so anyone who wants to answer my questions:
  1. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
  2. What one in-vogue style would you get rid of, if you could?
  3. What song describes your love life at the moment?
  4. How many books (physical copies) do you own?
  5. How old were you when you had your first kiss?
  6. Peanut butter and jelly or grilled cheese?
  7. What do you daydream about?
  8. Within your dating life, what's one dating faux pas you made?
  9. Is there a place that you go to quite often, but seem to get lost getting there every time? (Maybe that's just me.)
  10. Where was your first job?
  11. Who was your out-of-your-league, not-going-to-happen, crush? (Assuming you had at least one, if it's not current, and you don't want to give it away.)

Tagged

1. Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? It depends for what it is... and what is paired with it. But, dark usually triumphs over milk.
2. What's your favorite color? I have no idea. I love color combinations. My favorite: the fall colors. Cranberry, true green with golds and browns. Or pink and black. Or that robin egg blue with green and creams. Those ugly mustardy yellows and greens. I see a pattern, I think I like green the best.
3. Do you have any creative hobbies? I like to write. I like to craft - for about 5 minutes at a time. I want to learn how to sew and decorate cakes and I really wish I could design things... I wish I were more creative than I am. But I suppose I am more creative than those who are not creative at all...

4. What was your favorite subject in school? I loved English. And History. And Geography. And Art.
5. What is your favorite season and why? Fall. Fall has the best holidays, the best foods, the best smells, the best temperature, the best wardrobe, the best color palette (see above). It makes me ridiculously happy.
6. Who inspires you to sing like crazy when no one is around? Like Carla, I love Celine and Mariah. I will belt out their songs like nobody's business. And that's always best when no one is around, because I sound terrible. Of course, sometimes it is a necessity to sing "There were nights when the wind was so cold..." to the poor unsuspecting visitors and un-knowledgeable roommates.
7. What's your favorite dessert? Can you make it? How do you pick a favorite dessert? And yes. I can make it.
8. How did you learn to cook? My mother. And trial and error. And the internet. But mostly my mom.

Left vs Right

I am left-handed, so it would make since if I favored the left side of my brain because immediately I get defensive if someone says something bad about LEFTs. I don't know why. I am also always looking for discrimination against left-handed people. Like the pen that is sitting at my desk - I can't write with it. Why? Because I'm left-handed and when you write with your left hand it automatically starts twisting the pen and then the actual part that it writes with disappears. It's discrimination.

But that's not the point of this post.

Today at lunch we had an interesting discussion on my brain. See... I've always liked to think of myself as a left-brained person, but that's before I understood what each side of the brain actually does. Turns out, it's the RIGHT side of my brain that I favor (which makes me very sad to say). Apparently - and I know I've learned this in a psychology class, so the information isn't really new to me, I just never thought about it before - the LEFT side of the brain is for things like reason and logic and math.

In fact, Meghan was painting the distinct picture of my right-brain attacking my left-brain with its long, sucker-lined tentacles every time my left-brain tried to suggest something.

Pause.

Do you see the problem? I don't do things reasonably or logically or mathematically. I never really have that I know of. I have always preferred things that were abstract and creative. I can't figure out for the life of me why my sister HATES doing creative projects at school. A PowerPoint with a required CREATIVE slide - yes, please! A dictation exactly how to do things formulaicly? NO THANK YOU. Why do people put things in linear patterns? Why do people analyze situations to gosh dang much? How did you know it took me exactly 23 minutes to get here, instead of the 15 I said it would take? I don't get it.

Of course, this has created a lot of problems in my life. Especially recently. I blame the fact that the left side of my brain hates me to my money problems, graduation problems and inability to tell time and therefore be one time. My ability to be conned. My lack of general direction. My friends seem to think that if I would strive to develop the left side of my brain that I would be able to be more successful in my life. I wonder if it is permanently damaged?

The problem with developing the left side of your brain does not sound like a good time, at all.
To stimulate and strengthen the thinking processes of your "left brain," talk about things as logically as you can. Picking apart an argument or something you read, and analyzing it can exercise this part of the brain too.
This article did find some more enjoyable activities...but not many.

To stimulate the left side of the brain, you could solve a crossword puzzle or figure out a difficult mathematical equation. Learning a new language also stimulates the left side of the brain, as does figuring out complicated questions dealing with time or algebra. You might also want to study ethics, and analyse various situations and decide whether an action is good or bad. Other activities include learning new vocabulary words, mapping out a schedule to follow when working on a project, organizing day trips or vacations, and attending lectures on a variety of subjects.
I am guessing that the reason I did so poorly in learning Latin, or picking up ANY Spanish - despite the fact that I worked with Mexicans and lived with four fluent-Spanish speakers - is attributed to the fact that I am not a left-brained individual. I do like word games though... I love learning new vocabulary. But I don't think that really helps with my problems. Writing and speaking are definitely not a weak area in my life.

Anyway, I took a quick little quiz:

We do know that the left side of the brain is the seat of language and processes in a logical and sequential order. The right side is more visual and processes intuitively, holistically, and randomly.

You responded as a right brained person to 16 questions, and you responded as a left brained person to 3 questions. According to the Hemispheric Dominance test, you use your right brain the most. The summary briefly describes your dominance type.

Some of the traits associated with the right side of the brain are listed in the table. Not all of the traits will apply to you. Remember, we use both side of our brain, but your right sides gets the most exercise.

Type of Cognitive Processing

Brief Description
Holistic   Processing information from whole to part; sees the big picture first, not the details.
Random   Processing information without priority, jumps form one task to another.
Concrete   Processes things that can be seen , or touched - real objects.
Intuitive   Processes information based on whether or not it feels right know answer but not sure how it was derived.
Nonverbal   Processes thought as illustrations.
Fantasy-Oriented   Processes information with creativity; less focuses on rules and regulations

It is all beginning to make sense. Unfortuanately, everything that I have going on in my life right now only strengthens my right brain: practicing my flute, reading fluffy books, writing my own books....I don't know where moving falls into play but it's safe to say that I haven't done anything in regards to that, yet. And well, fine - I'll admit it - stats has pretty much fallen off the radar. I suppose I should get on that. That would be a definite left brained activity.

"Kill me!" My poor little right-brain is screaming as I even begin to process this.

Portrait of an ESFP - Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving
(Extraverted Sensing with Introverted Feeling)
The Performer

As an ESFP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in via your five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit with your personal value system.

ESFPs live in the world of people possibilties. They love people and new experiences. They are lively and fun, and enjoy being the center of attention. They live in the here-and-now, and relish excitement and drama in their lives.

ESFPs have very strong inter-personal skills, and may find themselves in the role of the peacemaker frequently. Since they make decisions by using their personal values, they are usually very sympathetic and concerned for other people's well-being. They're usually quite generous and warm. They are very observant about other people, and seem to sense what is wrong with someone before others might, responding warmly with a solution to a practical need. They might not be the best advice-givers in the world, because they dislike theory and future-planning, but they are great for giving practical care.

ESFP is definitely a spontaneous, optimistic individual. They love to have fun. If the ESFP has not developed their Thinking side by giving consideration to rational thought processing, they tend to become over-indulgent, and place more importance on immediate sensation and gratification than on their duties and obligations. They may also avoid looking at long-term consequences of their actions.

For the ESFP, the entire world is a stage. They love to be the center of attention and perform for people. They're constantly putting on a show for others to entertain them and make them happy. They enjoy stimulating other people's senses, and are extremely good at it. They would love nothing more than for life to be a continual party, in which they play the role of the fun-loving host.

ESFPs love people, and everybody loves an ESFP. One of their greatest gifts is their general acceptance of everyone. They are upbeat and enthusiastic, and genuinely like almost everybody. An ESFP is unfailingly warm and generous with their friends, and they generally treat everyone as a friend. However, once crosesed, an ESFP is likely to make a very strong and stubborn judgment against the person who crossed them. They are capable of deep dislike in such a situation.

The ESFP under a great deal of stress gets overwhelmed with negatives thoughts and possibilities. As an optimistic individual who lives in the world of possibilities, negative possibilities do not sit well with them. In an effort to combat these thoughts, they're likely to come up with simple, global statements to explain away the problem. These simplistic explanations may or may not truly get to the nature of the issue, but they serve the ESFP well by allowing them to get over it.

ESFPs are likely to be very practical, although they hate structure and routine. They like to "go with the flow", trusting in their ability to improvise in any situation presented to them. They learn best with "hands-on" experience, rather than by studying a book. They're uncomfortable with theory. If an ESFP hasn't developed their intuitive side, they may tend to avoid situations which involve a lot of theoretical thinking, or which are complex and ambiguous. For this reason, an ESFP may have difficulty in school. On the other hand, the ESFP does extremely well in situations where they're allowed to learn by interacting with others, or in which they "learn by doing".

ESFPs have a very well-developed appreciation for aesthetic beauty, and an excellent sense of space and function. If they have the means, they're likely to have to have many beautiful possessions, and an artfully furnished home. In general, they take great pleasure in objects of aesthetic beauty. They're likely to have a strong appreciation for the finer things in life, such as good food and good wine.

The ESFP is a great team player. He or she is not likely to create any problems or fuss, and is likely to create the most fun environment possible for getting the task done. ESFPs will do best in careers in which they are able to use their excellent people skills, along with their abilities to meld ideas into structured formats. Since they are fast-paced individuals who like new experiences, they should choose careers which offer or require a lot of diversity, as well as people skills.

ESFPs usually like to feel strongly bonded with other people, and have a connection with animals and small children that is not found in most other types. They're likely to have a strong appreciation for the beauties of nature as well.

The ESFP has a tremendous love for life, and knows how to have fun. They like to bring others along on their fun-rides, and are typically a lot of fun to be with. They're flexible, adaptable, genuinely interested in people, and usually kind-hearted. They have a special ability to get a lot of fun out of life, but they need to watch out for the pitfalls associated with living entirely in the moment.

Jungian functional preference ordering:

Dominant: Extraverted Sensing
Auxiliary: Introverted Feeling
Tertiary: Extraverted Thinking
Inferior: Introverted Intuition

Surveys are my favorite...

1. First thing you wash in the shower? Sometimes my hair, sometimes I grab the bar of soap, sometimes my face... it really all depends

2. What color is your favorite hoodie? teal

3. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again? He's married now, so probably not.

So I had to come up with elaborate schemes to keep my parents and friends from knowing that I was living with my now-husband. In the end, we realized that we weren't worthy to go through the temple, because of all our lies.

8. Did you meet anybody new today? That requires leaving your room/house. So, no.

12. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?

I have lots of wishes. The obvious one is to travel. And have babies. And to have a husband that I want to have babies with. Is that too much information? Probably.

23. What is something you would learn if you had the chance?
Yes, I would like to learn how to speak Spanish and Italian and French and Portuguese and...and...and...Romanian! I do not have the gift of tongues though. I can barely pronounce the simplest of Spanish. Hole-ah. Como Hestah.

Things that are really getting on my nerves today:

  1. People who expect you to read minds when you never claimed to be psychic or Edward.

BLUE

Basic Analysis

Congratulations, you are a blue.

blue: 48.74%
yellow: ??? %
red: ??? %
white: ??? %

Blues (Motive: Intimacy)

blues are motivated by Intimacy. They seek to genuinely connect with others, and need to be understood and appreciated. Everything they do is quality-based. They are loyal friends, employers, and employees. Whatever or whomever they commit to is their sole (and soul) focus. They love to serve and give of themselves freely in order to nurture others' lives.

blues have distinct preferences and have the most controlling personality. Their personal code of ethics is remarkably strong and they expect others to live honest, committed lives as well. They enjoy sharing meaningful moments in conversation as well as paying close attention to special life events (e.g. birthdays and anniversaries). blues are dependable, thoughtful, and analytical; but can also be self-righteous, worry-prone, and moody. They are "sainted pit-bulls" who never let go of something or someone once they are committed. When you deal with a BLUE, be sincere and make a genuine effort to understand and appreciate them.

10 Things You Didn't Know - but probably suspected

  1. I will order anything that has some sort of alcohol in it...or at least be intrigued by it, but I don't drink. Hence the reason I am eating, and enjoying, Bourbon chicken right now. Yum**
  2. I listen to awesome music.
  3. The harp upstairs is driving me bonkers.
  4. I am sincerely afraid of the day my (unborn, future) son wants to be in a musical, show choir, or heaven forbid, a dance team. I would much rather him play football or basketball. I'd even allow soccer or baseball...and watch faithfully. But dance?
  5. My brother Brad is my favorite kid between the ages of 12-18. He is hilarious, and will be driving soon. I love him to death.
  6. I should never be allowed in a book store. Unless I have 5 hours or more to occupy.
  7. I never have 5 hours or more to occupy.
  8. For one week - I showered every night, read my scriptures, said my prayers, went to bed by 11:00 p.m., woke up on time, went to work on time, and did not feel rested. Last night, I listened to Becca read two verses, cleaned the bathroom, said my prayers, went to bed at 2:30 a.m., and did not hear either of my alarms... this is more typical.
  9. Lately I've been dreaming about random people from high school... not even ones I was friends with. It's weird.
  10. I like class. I don't mind working. But I HATE doing both together. Actually, I don't like working. I'd rather be a perpetual student... or have my own garden.
**I need to make a clarification. When I talk about ordering anything with alcohol in it, I simply mean that things like, "beer-battered fish" or "creamy Marsala wine sauce" or "Whiskey chicken," "Banana's Foster with spiced Rum"

It's not that I'm seeking out alcohol, or the appearance of evil. It's just that when you are watching all the famous cooking shows, the FoodNetwork, etc they use WINE and ALCOHOL for everything. Whether as a drink to enhance their meal, or as an ingredient, it's always used. And since I refuse to have alcohol in my house, I'll never be able to do such things. But you have to admit, the flavor is uncommonly amazing when it is used in food. Therefore, I like to try it, because the alcohol is cooked out (do NOT argue with me on this... it's cooked out. I don't want to hear otherwise).

Besides, I do hardly anything rebellious. But...#11 I am a rebellious spirit. Even if it is only mild compareatively.

So, please... don't be concerned.

I am Marianne Dashwood!

I just watched Sense and Sensibility last night, and then I took this Jane Austen quiz, and here we are - me, Marianne Dashwood. I guess it is probably true, though sometimes I feel that I more relate to Elinor. But maybe not, Marianne is very passionate, and easily obsessed. She loves her family, loves the idea of romance and love that is often written about. She isn't very practical and doesn't put up with people she doesn't like or respect them. Hmmm... I am Marianne. Interesting.

ION television had a version of Sense and Sensibility that I actually really liked. I think the
actors they chose to play the characters were better chosen. But last night's version, I really enjoyed how witty and sarcastic Emma Thompson's Elinor was. She was funny.
